What have we done?

The house is officially ours!
Tonight I was all fired up to post pictures for you...
until I stopped by a favorite site and found my way to this:

Another insomnia report...

So I'm up at 4 am wondering...

1) When will my right leg stop aching?
2) Why did I have to have the second margarita? When will I learn?
3) How can we reconfigure the horrible kitchen in the new house?

Hmmm. Shockingly, stewing on these thoughts is not helping me get back to sleep.

Let's focus on the positive, shall we?

* On the whole, the new house is fantastic.
* We accepted an offer on the condo.
* My lovely friend Jason C. is coming into town from NYC this weekend and I can't wait to have breakfast with him and catch up.

Feeling better now. Hey, has anyone read The World is Flat? I bought a copy last weekend and I'm wondering if it may be the cure I'm looking for. In an hour I'll either be fascinated and distracted from the abovementioned items, or asleep.

big day

Let's play a game. I'll tell you what I'm holding, and you guess what we're doing tomorrow.

1. My passport
2. A five-figure cashier's check
3. The phone number for my attorney
4. A HUD settlement statement

riding into the sunset

The rumors are true. Our condo is officially under contract, after a bit less than two weeks on the market. Time to say good-bye to all this:

And hello to this:

Goodbye, penthouse. Hello, Parks & Recreation.

But, lest anyone get the wrong idea, our neighborhood is far from Green Acres. I quote the Village's official Diversity Statement: "We choose this community, not just as a place to live, but as a way of life ... Ours is a dynamic community that encourages the contributions of all citizens, regardless of race, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, economic status, political affiliation or any of the other distinguishing characteristics that all too often divide people in society." (I love Utopian local government.)

We have a few hurdles yet to clear: the inspection (tomorrow morning), the attorney review, the buyers getting their mortgage officially approved (more on them later). But there's nothing we can do about all that. Guess we'll just have to find ways to keep ourselves occupied in the meantime... Say, anyone know where I can get my hands on a jackhammer?

Ah insomnia

I'm up at 4:46 am thinking...

1) how can I make my right leg stop aching?
2) will someone buy our condo? (soon? for our price?)
3) is my document ready for the 9 am meeting this morning?
4) how can I find an architect we can trust?

How did I get this bruise?

Its really alarming that I don't know for certain. I suspect I sustained the injury while trying to get our ridiculous 600 lbs. treadmill down 4 flights of stairs last weekend.

You'd think I would have noticed the moment when something impacted my right calf with such force, but the truth is I was incredibly distracted by notion that if I lost my grip the treadmill would tumble forward and brutally kill my poor sweet husband.
